The Opioid Overdose Management course was created to help combat the growing tragedy of opioid caused overdoses. Students will be informed in-depth on opioids and their misuse, and the physiological effects of opioids and overdose. Students will learn indicators for identifying a possible opioid overdose and the “SAVE-ME” treatment approach. This includes instruction on the use of Naloxone for both nasal spray and injection delivery methods, along with special considerations with this treatment. Importantly, this course shows that although Naloxone is a very valuable tool for treating an opioid overdose, artificial respirations can keep a casualty alive in its absence. In all, the information presented in this course is valuable for anyone who may encounter such an overdose.
